Photo taken from the BMW Xpo’11 at Siam Paragon. First I thought this was supposed to be the new BMW i8 but nay, it really is a concept car, with glass doors and everything.
My friend happened to be one of the BMW salesmen there at the expo and he revealed that on a tiny five-day expo like this, they can actually make heaps of money. They sold around 300 cars this year, which isn’t bad given the condition of the economy. It shouldn’t be surprising either given that Bangkok is a city with 10-million plus people living in it.
Interestingly, the best selling car this time was the BMW X1. The X1 was designed to target those who are usually attracted by Japanese cars. The pricing is quite clever as well at only 100,000 baht more than a Camry.
When I asked about the possibility of them importing BMW i8 to Thailand, you guess it. It’s not going to happen as Thailand isn’t EV friendly at all. Rich Thais, you can go back to your Porsche. The cool looking BMW is never going to come.
